FabFitFun's magical unboxing experience with Camera IQ's AR platform

GOALS

FabFitFun is a quarterly subscription service delivering the season’s best full-size beauty, fashion, & fitness products straight to your doorstep. They teamed up with Camera IQ to provide their customers with a magical and delightful unboxing experience with the use of augmented reality. Additionally, they wanted a place that customers could re-engage with FabFitFun in between boxes by reading new content and adding on to their next box.

Research

Since this would be FabFitFun's first app, we wanted to familiarize ourselves with their business needs and understand what would make this app a success for them. We spoke with stakeholders from merchandizing, content, marketing, product, and community engagement to get the perspectives from across the business.

Key Learnings:

Customers are most excited about the surprise and delight of the unboxing experience and any way that this app can enhance that experience is a success
Customers are always looking to get more content around the items in their box (i.e. more about the unfamiliar brands, how-to's, behind the scenes, etc)
FabFitFun's community is very engaged (i.e. posting their unboxing experience, participating in their forum, and sharing items on social as they use them)

After understanding FabFitFun's needs, we looked at competitors across the landscape from subscription services, AR apps, social apps and review apps to draw inspiration and learnings.

FEATURE set LIST

From there, we created a feature set list that helped us understand at a high level all the features that we wanted to include in our ideal experience. Because we had a short amount of time before the next box was being sent out, we knew we wouldn't be able to include all the features and had to prioritize which features made it into the initial release.
